Martin knows that Healthcare costs are a major concern for all constituents. That is why he has been working on improving access to more affordable health care options while also working to drive down actual costs of care.

Martin has delivered by:

Co-Authoring a Bill in 2020 that ends the practice of surprise billing when you go to in network facilities.

Authoring the expansion of affordable short term health insurance options. Allowing those plans to be purchased for up to 3 years in advance and requiring insurance companies cover commonly use medical services as well as provide a minimum of $2,000,000 of coverage per year.

Co-Authoring a bill to require price transparency. Now medical providers will have to give a good faith estimate of what a non-emergency procedure could cost prior to that procedure. This allows people to budget but also shop for more affordable options.

Sponsored a bill that limited the practice of step therapy with prescription drugs

Co-authored a bill that improved the prior authorization process for medical procedures. It created tighter parameters that get the insurers and medical providers to communicate better and be sure prior authorizations are more reliable and quicker than in the past.

There is more work to be done, and Martin is already working with leaders to create new options on the Federal Marketplace Exchange. Right now we have only two companies offering options on the exchange. It is important we create new innovative ways to bring companies back on to the exchange to give Hoosiers more options and bring down premiums through more competition!
